Canada’s head coach, Jon Cooper, announced that captain Sidney Crosby is a game-time decision for Sunday’s gold-medal clash with the U.S., according to insights from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. Crosby sustained an injury in Canada’s quarterfinal victory over the Czech Republic, exiting after a rough collision with Radko Gudas and not returning to the game.
Efforts to tailor a supportive solution continued in the days that followed. Crosby and Canada’s staff reportedly explored the possibility of a custom brace to have him ready for Friday’s semifinal against Finland, but they were unable to secure a workable fit.
Cooper stressed that Crosby won’t suit up in the final just to appear on the scoresheet.
“No. It’s too important,” Cooper said, via TSN’s Mark Masters. “We don’t want to have somebody in there as an inspiration when we could have a player capable of helping. You never know if guys are going to get hurt. He wouldn’t want to do that either.”
Canada edged Finland 3–2 to advance to the final, a victory that coach and players marked as a testament to resilience. Tom Wilson later credited Crosby with helping lift the team’s performance, noting that Nathan MacKinnon’s late power-play strike sealed the win with 35 seconds left.
