Prepare for a significant event in the Catholic Church! Pope Leo XIV is set to hold his inaugural Extraordinary Consistory on January 7 and 8, which promises to delve into pivotal themes shaping the Church today. The sessions are designed to engage the College of Cardinals in meaningful discussions about vital topics such as Evangelii Gaudium and the Church’s mission, the apostolic constitution Praedicate Evangelium, the Curia's role in relation to local churches, synodality, and liturgical matters.
This two-day assembly will commence tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in the Vatican’s Synod Hall. Although the proceedings will occur behind closed doors, they aim to foster a spirit of collaboration and discernment among the cardinals, many of whom recently participated in the Holy Door closing ceremony and the Epiphany Mass on January 6. This gathering seeks to provide support and guidance to Pope Leo as he navigates the complexities of governing the global Church.
On the morning of January 8, a special moment awaits as Pope Leo will concelebrate Mass with the attending cardinals at the Altar of the Chair within St. Peter’s Basilica. The morning session will kick off at 9:30 a.m. and will continue until 12:45 p.m., followed by another meeting in the afternoon from 3:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., concluding this important consistory.
